Are You Aureliusly living?

"Reject your sense of injury and the injury itself disappears" - Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius was the last emperor of Rome during Pax Romana, a man who led with stoicism, honesty and virtue. He is still seen as one of the greatest philosophers of history for his writings on beliefs, faith, and self-improvement, among other things. This quote resonates with me personally because it speaks directly to the emotional injury I have endured from my past and childhood. The way I perceive these past experiences directly correlates to how they affect me in the present. It's not that going into denial about your injuries, rather dismissing the feeling that the pain brings. A great example of this is the self pity I've had, feeling down about myself because of the lies I've told myself and others. Once I denounced these thoughts and replaced them with a sense of forgiveness and reformation, however, the self-loathing and grief disappeared with it. No more do I carry this burden because I can look past my pain and towards a brighter future me.
